The Manchester City fans breathed a sigh of relief after the clarifications of the coaching staff of the Norwegian national team regarding the physical condition of the scorer “Erling Haaland”, following his forced exit during the recent confrontation with Portugal, these reassurances came at a very sensitive time, as English football fans are waiting for the fiery clash between Manchester City and Liverpool.
The 65th minute of the meeting saw a signal from the Norwegian striker towards the bench asking to leave the green rectangle, to be replaced by Jurgen strand Larsen, and what increased the tension of the followers was the player leaving the field suffering from a slight limp, before Portugal grabbed the Victory goal in the last minutes of the confrontation.
In an attempt to dispel doubts and resolve the controversy surrounding the readiness of the 24-year-old star, coach Stolle Solbakken issued statements to the British newspaper Metro, stressing that the decision to leave was agreed in advance as part of a plan to manage physical exertion and avoid muscle strain, especially after a busy schedule in which the team played four matches in just eleven days.
Solbakken said in his remarks: “the striker was originally scheduled to play about one hour, there are a lot of players who have reached the limit of their energy. Sander Berg and Martin Odegaard, for example, look very exhausted, as if they are digging to the bottom”.
“Erling has been working hard for a long time, I think he has been subjected to a lot of contacts and friction, but he was a very important player for us, and he performed very well in the role of a striker who is the fulcrum of the team,”the Norway coach continued talking about the City Star.
“We were hoping he would play for 60 minutes, but he managed to play for 65 minutes . There are a lot of positive things in it”.
These data indicate that Haaland’s exit was not due to an alarming injury, but a purely precautionary measure after the great physical exertion and strong adhesions that he encountered during the minutes spent on the court. This increases the chances of city’s top scorer to catch the top of the next round at Anfield against Liverpool, as soon as the next training sessions go on track without unexpected setbacks.
