The features of a new international football competition are looming that may change the map of regional competitions, after press reports issued by Uzbek media, and circulated by sports platforms, including the “Al-Masry Al-Youm” website, revealed an initiative led by the Turkish Football Federation to establish a regional championship inspired by the idea and system of the Arabian Gulf Cup.
This step aims to bring together the teams with common historical and geographical ties between Turkey and the Central Asian region in a single football forum, under the proposed name of the “Turkish Nations” Championship, with the plan to hold their competitions periodically once every two years to enhance technical friction between these teams.
The preliminary list of the competition includes 7 main teams: (Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan), and to complete the Quorum of the tournament to reach 8 teams, the organizers of the idea are considering issuing a special invitation to an eighth team from outside this direct geographical range.
The names of three teams from the Middle East (Iraq, Syria and Iran) emerged on the discussion table as potential candidates for this card, due to cultural ties and the presence of minorities with Turkish origins living in these countries, which gives their participation an additional public and artistic dimension.
However, the championship is still in the process of preliminary proposals; no official announcement has yet been made confirming the transition of the project to actual implementation or its adoption on the international agenda. There is also uncertainty surrounding the launch date of the founding edition, the host country, as well as the technical mechanism by which the matches will be conducted, pending the outcome of consultations between the football associations concerned during the coming period.
