Khaled El-Dandaly, Vice President of the Egyptian Football Association, stated that the final decision regarding Mohamed Salah and Mohamed Abdelmonem’s involvement in the upcoming friendly against South Africa will be officially determined within the next few hours.
Both players missed Egypt’s recent 5-0 victory over South Sudan in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers as a precautionary measure to avoid playing on an artificial turf pitch. This decision prioritized player safety, particularly following Abdelmonem’s return from an ACL injury and the medical warnings issued by his club, OGC Nice, alongside the coaching staff’s plan to rest Salah.
El-Dandaly commended the squad’s dedication and high spirit despite demanding weather conditions and elevated temperatures during the match. He highlighted the significant leadership and morale boost provided by key figures like Mohamed Salah and Mohamed El-Shenawy, noting that the emphatic win re-energizes the team’s momentum.
The EFA vice president firmly dismissed rumors claiming Al Ahly requested to withdraw its players from the national camp early, reiterating that the club has consistently supported all national teams across various international fixtures.
