Arsenal officials are currently working to finalize their winter transfer dealings early, as the name of Spanish player Alex Baena, a star of Atletico Madrid, has returned to the top of the Gunners’ management’s list of interests for signing in January, following a long period of monitoring the player since the summer of 2024.
Reports from the “Team Talk” network, citing the “Football Transfers” website, revealed that the Arsenal coach sees Payna as the ideal solution to address the attacking gaps, due to his high tactical flexibility and his complete proficiency in the winger and playmaker positions behind the strikers.
The urgent desire of the London club to resolve this issue comes to fill the significant gap on the left flank, following the departure of the duo Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli last summer, and only bringing in Christos Tsoulis, which has put the team’s front line under continuous pressure in local and continental competitions.
Despite the impressive numbers the 25-year-old player has been putting up this season, scoring five goals and providing two assists in just nine matches, the path for the Gunners to finalize the deal will not be smooth. The player is tied to a long-term contract with his Spanish club that extends until 2030, in addition to being one of the key pillars relied upon by coach Diego Simeone, who does not intend to part with him easily.
