Turkish outlet haber61 has reported on the recent developments inside the Egyptian national team camp, focusing on Mohamed Salah’s departure just ahead of their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against South Sudan.
While initial reports suggested that Salah was rested due to the artificial turf at Juba Stadium, the Turkish newspaper highlighted counter-arguments raised by former Egyptian international Reda Abdel Aal, who cast doubt on whether the move was planned in advance with the coaching staff.
The paper quoted Reda Abdel Aal stating:
“Mohamed Salah’s departure from the Egypt national team camp before facing South Sudan is certainly a sudden decision. There was no prior agreement with the technical staff led by Hossam Hassan, and the proof of that is the unexpected call-up of Osama Faisal, the National Bank striker, to join the national team.”
He added:
“If there had indeed been a prior agreement between Mohamed Salah and Egypt’s technical staff regarding his absence against South Sudan, why wasn’t Osama Faisal called up to the squad from the very beginning?”
He further explained:
“In my view, no one expected Mohamed Salah to leave the Egypt camp; it was a reaction from the player in protest against being substituted against Angola.”
The Turkish report concluded by noting that Abdel Aal’s remarks reflect solely his personal view, especially since neither the Egyptian Football Association nor the technical staff has issued any statement confirming whether Salah was upset over his substitution during the goalless draw with Angola.
