The referees committee of the Egyptian Football Association, under the leadership of “Essam Abdel Fattah”, is living in a state of technical and administrative confusion as the date of the upcoming summit approaches, which will bring together the teams of Al-Ahly and pyramids, scheduled to be held on November 23 next as part of the ninth week of the Egyptian Premier League competition.
Reports from responsible sources within the Football Association revealed that there are significant obstacles to meeting the demands of the Al-Ahly club management, which adheres to the need to assign the management of the meeting to a foreign arbitration staff belonging to one of the five major European leagues, namely English, Spanish, Italian, German, or French.
The main reason for this crisis is due to scheduling conflicts with the continental agenda; the new round of the Champions League kicks off just 24 hours after the Al-Ahly and pyramids match, as well as the elite referees ‘ preoccupation with managing crucial confrontations in their domestic leagues during the weekend immediately preceding the meeting, which makes it extremely difficult to contract them.
In the face of this impasse, the intention inside the mountain is to look for other alternatives, by addressing European federations outside the Big Five leagues, with a focus on choosing an arbitration staff with extensive international experience to avoid any controversy that may accompany the meeting, and this scene brings to mind the similar crisis that the Football Federation faced recently before the summit meeting between Al-Ahly and Zamalek in the league championship, when the committee was forced to use Slovenian referee Rady Obrenovic due to lack of time and the apology of several major federations.
