“”Ahly club has decided to renew the contract of its captain and goalkeeper, Mohamed El-Shenawy, to ensure his stay within the walls of the red castle until the 2027-2028 season, in a move that carried strong messages of support for the international goalkeeper after the statements of “Hossam Hassan”, the technical director of the Egyptian national team, which sparked a wide controversy in the sports circles.
The Pharaohs coach had launched an attack on El-Shenawy before the start of the African Nations qualifiers, saying that the goalkeeper “was finished with his club earlier and played with us in the national team,” which was met with angry reactions and harsh criticism from the Al-Ahly administration in defense of the team leader.
Al Ahli Club explained through its official platforms that the renewal session brought the guard together with officials of the football sector, where the club announced in its statement: “Al-Shennawi held a meeting with Dr. Essam Serageldin, head of the contracting sector, and Wael Juma, the football manager, during which he extended his contract with the club”.
The statement pointed out that El-Shennawi “expressed his great pride in the appreciation of the club and its management and his gratitude for the support of the fans of Al-Ahli for the club and its players, and that he and his colleagues are lucky with these fans, who always push them to redouble their efforts and achieve more victories and championships,” and in terms of financial and contractual privileges, the new contract included a unique exception that is not available to any other player in the team, as El-Shennawi was completely exempted from the conditional participation rate clause to get his full dues.
This exception caused the reservation of the team duo Yasser Ibrahim and Mohammed Hani to renew their contracts, because they want to get the same advantage, which was met with a categorical refusal from the club officials, and under the new agreement, El-Shenawy receives an annual salary of 30 million pounds net of taxes, in addition to 10 million pounds as incentives, advertising revenues and sponsorship, and negotiations did not take long between the parties to complete the official signing.
