In recent hours, a major shift has occurred regarding the Egyptian national team’s goalkeeping position. Following changes in the Pharaohs’ technical staff-marked by the appointment of Ali Maher as head coach succeeding Hossam Hassan-the doors of the national team camp have reopened for Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy after a period of absence.
According to sources, the previous coaching staff led by Hossam Hassan was planning to keep the same four goalkeepers from the last training camp, which meant El Shenawy was definitively ruled out of the national team’s plans. However, with Ali Maher taking charge, the situation changed significantly. The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) has taken practical steps by requesting El Shenawy’s passport to process his potential inclusion in the upcoming squad.
These developments coincided with El Shenawy’s return to the starting lineup during Al Ahly’s match against El Sekka El Hadid in the Egypt Cup. His appearance boosted his physical and technical readiness, making him a strong contender to rejoin the national team roster for the upcoming phase.
