International breaks do not always pass without tangible gains for teams, as the European football confederation “UEFA” is keen to financially compensate clubs for the absence of their stars to participate with their national teams in the Nations League and continental competitions.
The European Union has allocated a huge budget of about GBP 205 million to cover the 2024/2025 and 2026/2027 Nations League tournaments, as well as the euro 2028 qualifiers and finals, and the upcoming Euro 2028 finals receive the largest share of GBP 120 million, while clubs share GBP 89 million for the appearance of their players in the Nations League and qualifiers.
The clubs are preparing to receive the first payment this week in the amount of (GBP 27 million) through the clubs benefits program, for the current edition of the Nations League, and the financial distribution mechanism depends on precise criteria; during the Nations League and qualifiers, the club receives a financial reward for each player entering the official match List, which amounts to (GBP 3285) per match after an increase of 5% over the last cycle, but in the Euro finals, the scale changes to become the calculation daily for the duration of the player’s presence with the national team.
This system clearly means that simply summoning a player to the national team camp does not give his club the right to financial benefit, but requires his actual presence on the match sheet, and the German club Leipzig ranks at the top of the beneficiaries at this stage by about (302 thousand pounds sterling) after the adoption of 16 players from its ranks in the match lists.
