The camp of the Portuguese national team witnessed accelerated developments that cast a shadow on the internal atmosphere of the team, after the captain “Cristiano Ronaldo” left the training headquarters following a sharp disagreement with the technical director “Jorge Jesus”, an incident that required urgent intervention from the president of the Portuguese Federation “Pedro bruinsa” to contain the crisis situation.
The roots of the dispute date back to the confrontation with Norway in the European Nations League competitions, where Ronaldo remained on the bench throughout the meeting, despite undergoing warm-ups for about thirty minutes in preparation for participation, and Jesus had explained to the player before the meeting his intention to push him in the last half hour, besides notifying him not to rely on him mainly against Norway and Denmark, but the technical changes during the course of the meeting went in a completely different direction, which ignited the crisis.
Spanish journalist Edo Aguirre, who is close to Ronaldo, explained through the “Chiringuito” program that the Portuguese star was dominated by a deep sense of disappointment and a decline in trust towards the coach, and confirmed that a session brought Ronaldo and Jesus together with the president of the federation to discuss the circumstances of what happened, during which the coach apologized and promised to clarify the matter publicly in front of the media.
But the coach’s press conference came in contrast to those understandings, where Jesus appeared in a decisive tone and stressed his absolute powers in managing the formation and choosing substitutions without anyone’s tutelage, describing the team leader as an element within the system like the rest of his colleagues, which prompted Ronaldo to miss the next training session and leave the camp immediately.
