The dispute between FIFA and European football authorities has intensified, moving into the US legal system as both sides clash over governance and finances. FIFA accused UEFA officials of harassment and attempting to interfere with the upcoming presidential race by circulating misleading claims regarding a World Cup investment venture.
The tensions surfaced through legal filings submitted by FIFA in Miami, intended to block UEFA’s request for full disclosure on a shelved project known as “FIFA Forward Enterprise.” The initiative, which explored selling stakes in tournament rights to private investors, prompted UEFA to raise questions about financial management and suggest potential legal action against Gianni Infantino.
FIFA’s legal team firmly rejected the allegations, arguing that UEFA’s demands lack any factual foundation and are strategically timed to influence the presidential election. The dispute unfolds at a critical juncture, following UEFA’s decision to withdraw its backing for Infantino while the football community waits to see if a rival European candidate will enter the race before the filing deadline.
