A Madrid court has scheduled a formal reconciliation hearing between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid president Florentino Perez for November 25 at 9:40 AM, held across courtrooms 1 and 2. The session serves as a mandatory pre-trial step before Barcelona proceeds with a defamation lawsuit against the Madrid chief.
The legal action, spearheaded by Barcelona’s legal director Pere Lluis Mellado, stems from remarks Perez made to the press on May 12, directly accusing the Catalan club of referee bribery to gain competitive advantages. The dispute has further strained relations between the two Spanish powerhouses, which have remained deeply compromised throughout the ongoing Negreira case.
Barcelona intends to use the hearing to demand a complete retraction of the claims. The club is pushing Perez to either substantiate his allegations by naming the specific match officials involved and detailing the contested matches, or formally acknowledge that his public statements lacked any factual basis.
The court stated that an absence by Barcelona would prompt an immediate dismissal of the case. Conversely, if Perez fails to appear, the session will be legally deemed as having taken place. Should the Real Madrid president refuse to retract his words or decline attendance, Barcelona plans to escalate the matter immediately by filing a criminal defamation complaint.
