Egypt’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has moved swiftly to restore calm and focus within the national football team’s camp as the Pharaohs prepare to face South Sudan in Juba for matchday two of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Addressing recent friction surrounding the squad, the ministry’s official spokesperson, Mohamed El-Shazly, revealed that Sports Minister Gohar Nabil has directly intervened to resolve disagreements and ensure a stable environment ahead of Tuesday’s fixture.
Speaking to Modern TV channel, El-Shazly stated:
“The ministry, and the minister personally, closely follows every detail regarding the sports ecosystem, especially football, and specifically the senior national team’s participation in the African qualifiers and all its fixtures.”
He added regarding recent tensions:
“Regarding the obstacle or issue that surfaced recently among stakeholders, the minister intervened significantly, and matters are now moving steadily toward calm.”
He continued:
“The minister is keen to create the right atmosphere for the team. We are closely monitoring preparations, the arrival in Juba, and a safe return home following a victory, God willing, against South Sudan.”
El-Shazly emphasized that follow-up steps will take place soon after the match to maintain lasting stability across the board:
“Further steps will be taken over the coming days once the team returns, God willing, to settle matters among all parties in the football setup. We are determined to carry out a deeper, more impactful effort involving Minister Gohar Nabil, the Egyptian Football Association, the technical staff, and all relevant sides.”
Responding to questions about communication with national team captain Mohamed Salah, El-Shazly confirmed direct contact:
“Certainly, without any hesitation or reservation. Mohamed Salah remains an Egyptian icon and an invaluable figure not only in football, but across Egyptian sports as a whole. The minister maintains ongoing contact with Mohamed Salah, whether during his career in Europe, his current stint in the Turkish league, or when he represents Egypt. Salah remains a true sporting icon.”
He elaborated:
“The minister reaches out to him regularly, not merely to address a problem, but to check in on him, discuss potential challenges, and celebrate his achievements. Mohamed Salah stands as one of our most prominent sports ambassadors.”
On administrative and logistics coordination with the delegation in Juba, the spokesman explained:
“Communication is conducted via Engineer Hany Abo Rida, as the minister underlined stability and safety for the delegation heading to South Sudan, coordinating team needs, players, and coaching staff with the Egyptian Embassy, national carrier EgyptAir, and the return flight arrangements. The priority is securing a victory, followed by long-term stability across the entire system.”
Concluding his remarks, El-Shazly confirmed that the team remains insulated from public debate and online noise:
“Constant communication is underway to ensure all requirements are met. The mood within the camp has been completely reassuring since their arrival, and recent controversies across social media and the press have had no negative impact on the squad.”
