The leak of a proposed formula for dividing the visual transfer revenues of the Moroccan league sparked a sharp controversy in football circles, as the sports Street was divided between those who see the need to reward the most attractive clubs to viewers, and those who fear a widening financial gap that may empty the competition of the spirit of equality.
According to Moroccan reports, this issue monitored the background of the Rolling offer and its repercussions, as the circulating draft puts forward the idea of dividing the supposed proceeds of approximately 9.85 million dollars (i.e. approximately 96 million Moroccan dirhams) by classifying clubs into three degrees of varying importance:
The first place alone accounts for 45% of the total amount, which is approximately equal to 4.43 million dollars, and is limited only to two clubs that have exceeded the threshold of twenty percent of views: please and friendly sports.
The second place is worth 35% of the cake, with about 3.45 million dollars, and includes teams whose mass share ranges from four to twenty percent, headed by the Royal Army, Morocco Fassi, planet Marrakech and Nahda Barkan.
The third place was allocated only 20% of the budget, about 1.97 million dollars, to be distributed to the rest of the Championship clubs whose ratings did not reach the four percent threshold.
This vision is based on digital data that shows a sweeping superiority of the two poles of Casablanca; please leads the follow-up by more than 27.5% by registering about 13.46 million views, while Wadad is followed by about 20.7% and more than 10 million views, which means in practice that the two clubs alone account for about half of the total cake of views calculated at 48.25%, while the Royal Army stands far away in third place with no more than 8.52%, followed by Morocco El Fassi by about 6%.
But relying on viewing figures alone as the basis for distributing money faces fundamental objections; sources indicate that these statistics are mainly derived from digital platforms, YouTube accounts, and certain channels such as SNRTnews, which makes them not accurately reflect the volume of overall views or the numbers of real followers through traditional television broadcasts. Also, the viewership rates are by nature affected by changing circumstances, such as the showtimes of matches, the strength of the opponent and the real-time results of each team, and cannot be considered an absolute guide to the overall popularity.
The real challenge for those responsible for Moroccan football remains to find a middle equation; while some see the legitimacy of granting mass clubs in return commensurate with their marketing value in attracting sponsors, others warn that excessive weighting of the Casablanca poles will harm the competitive structure of the Championship and deprive the rest of the teams of necessary incomes for the development of their players.
