Inside sources from the Egyptian national team have clarified the circumstances surrounding Mohamed Salah’s departure following the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, dismissing rumors that the captain left abruptly after the final whistle.
Events unfolded calmly inside the camp. Head coach Hossam Hassan held a brief five-minute meeting with the squad after dinner, urging the players to stay focused and take responsibility, while reassuring them that he bears full accountability for the results.
A subsequent private conversation took place between Hassan and Salah, which concluded on very positive terms with a warm embrace, reflecting mutual respect and a stable atmosphere within the squad.
The decision to rest Salah for the upcoming fixture against South Sudan was strictly preventive, aimed at protecting him from injury risks associated with the artificial turf at the match venue.
Egypt opened their qualifying campaign with a goalless draw against Angola in a group that also features Malawi and South Sudan. The Pharaohs now turn their attention to their second-round clash at Juba Stadium against South Sudan, aiming to secure their first three points in the qualifiers.
