The Portuguese Football Federation decided to suspend the captain of the national team “Cristiano Ronaldo” as a precaution, coinciding with the opening of an expanded disciplinary investigation regarding him on the background of leaving the headquarters of his country’s mission without permission before meeting Denmark in the UEFA Nations League competition.
The federation said in an official statement: “the Portuguese Football Federation announced the opening of a disciplinary procedure against the star Cristiano Ronaldo, the captain of the national team, with a decision to suspend him as a precaution until the end of the investigation into the incident of his departure from the national team camp before facing Denmark, in the competition of the European Nations League. The procedure comes to investigate the facts that were referred to the disciplinary authorities on October 7, with the case granted the status of urgency and referred to the disciplinary investigation committee to complete the necessary procedures.”
The spark of disagreement broke out in the Danish capital Copenhagen following a sharp difference of views between the veteran star and technical director Georgi Jesus about the space of his artistic participation inside the stadium, especially after he remained on the bench throughout the Norway confrontation and was content with warm-up operations. The tension escalated quickly, and the player left the camp expressing his anger at remaining out of the accounts despite previous promises to give him the opportunity to play.
Despite the crisis situation, Ronaldo was later keen to remedy part of the situation by offering an official apology to his colleagues and to the fans who could not greet him after the Norway match, expressing his readiness to bear the legal consequences of his action, while sticking to his sincere desire to defend his national team shirt in the future.
The regulations governing the national teams in Portugal stipulate that leaving the training camp without an official document threatens its owner with suspension for a period ranging from one to six months, at a time when the football community is waiting for the final results of the investigation into an incident that occupied the sports Street due to the player’s historical position and his great weight within the ranks of “Brazil Europe”.
