Nowadays, football is no longer just a sporting competition limited to the 90 minutes on the pitch, but has turned into a huge economic investment controlled by large public transactions that have the ability to turn the financial balances of clubs upside down.
Perhaps the experience of the transfer of the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to the ranks of the Turkish club Trabzonspor clearly reflects this fact, since from the first moment of the arrival of the leader of the Pharaohs to the stronghold of the Turkish club, the coffers witnessed an unprecedented financial recovery translated by official figures into huge economic gains.
The management of Trabzonspor club announced its new financial report through the Turkish public disclosure platform for the period from the first of June to August 31, 2026, a report that revealed a clear improvement in the economic situation of the club and a decrease in net debt to settle at 2.9 billion Turkish Liras.
This decrease in the size of debts was the result of accurate financial calculations that included current assets worth (6.7 billion liras), in addition to the club’s claim for (2.6 billion liras) as compensation for confiscation, in addition to the inclusion of an inflation accounting item worth (1.8 billion liras) without representing actual cash flow, and the club’s management deducted expropriation compensation of (4.9 billion liras) from the total debts, taking into account all financial obligations related to player transfer deals and future installments due.
Although the decline in debts recorded in the report is not directly related to the Egyptian star deal, the commercial returns of Mohamed Salah’s arrival marked a historic turning point in the Turkish club’s budget, and Salah had moved to Trabzon via a free transfer deal after closing the curtain on his legendary career in a Liverpool shirt, to sign a two-season contract for a guaranteed annual salary of up to (17 million euros).
This large salary did not represent any pressure on the club’s Treasury, but quickly turned into a successful investment project by all standards, as Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dugan revealed that “record sales of season tickets worth 550 million liras” were achieved within only 3 days from the moment of the official announcement of the player’s inclusion.
The club president explained that the financial returns resulting from the sale of tickets alone have covered almost 70% of the value of the Egyptian star’s annual salary, which means that the management succeeded in recovering the bulk of the cost of the deal in record time, before starting to reap the huge profits expected from new sponsorship contracts and sales of team shirts bearing the name of Salah.
What is currently happening inside Trabzonspor proves that the contract with the stars of the first row in the world goes beyond being a technical support for the offensive line, to become an integrated economic project that rearranges Securities and opens new investment horizons confirming that the marketing value of the big stars always remains a winning bet.
